It seems like during the entire month of June we have been bombarded with stories of horrific abuses against women around the globe. We have heard of the Pakistani women (one was pregnant) who were attacked by for marrying men that their family’s did not approve of. The pregnant woman was beat to death with bricks and rocks while the other was shot and left for dead but, thankfully, survived.
We have also heard of the Sudanese woman who was sentenced to 100 lashes and death for marrying a Christian man and refusing to denounce her Christian faith. Thankfully this woman had her sentenced overturned and was freed.
When we see stories like these, it is difficult not to feel some sort of anger. While we can experience righteous anger, we have to believe that God is in control. If we read what God says about these situations we can use His Word to pray prayers of intercession for victims of these types of abuses.
Colossians 3:19 KJV:
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 KJV:
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Psalm 10:17-18 KJV:
Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV:
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
John 13:34 KJV:
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Whenever we hear about abuses and atrocities around the globe, we should reflect on scriptures and pray.
