By reading and studying the Prayer of Jabez, I was led to other works of the author, Bruce Wilkinson. One of his works is the series “A Life God Rewards” which I mentioned in my previous post. Recently I came across “The Fruit of the Vine” by Wilkinson, and it led me to study what Jesus asks of us in our daily lives on earth. We are to “produce good fruit” and we will be recognized by our fruit.
Matthew 7: 16-20 (KJV).Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Galatians 5: 22-23 (KJV). But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Matthew 7 states that we will know people by the fruit they produce. This also means that WE will be known to others by the fruit WE produce. As Christians, we have a responsibility to be a “light” to those who are lost and to guide them into the flock of Jesus. If we are not producing good fruit such as the fruit of the Spirit defined in Galatians 5, then we are not being a true witness for the Kingdom of God and the Good News of Jesus Christ.
